Dryness goes beyond surface-level discomfort, often resulting in increased sensitivity, dullness, and fine lines. As we journey through different stages of life, addressing dryness becomes essential to maintain a vibrant, plump complexion. These are my top tips to keeping your skin quenched, bouncy + radiant!
- Toners are a game changer for dry skin. Dehydrated skin is different than dry skin. Toners address lack of water or hydration, while moisturizers and balms address lack of oil or moisture. Both are important in addressing dry skin.
- Oil is your skin’s best friend. As we age, our skin produces less natural oils, leading to dryness. Facial oils + balms will help replenish that oil and moisture loss.
- Drinking a lot of water is great, but not sufficient for hydrating skin. Skin must also be hydrated topically. Apply 4-6 spritzes of toner twice/day and follow with a moisturizer.
- Avoid harsh products that strip or irritate the skin. Your skin should not feel tight, burning or tingly. Harsh products will damage your skin's healthy protective barrier.
- Avoid hot or cold water. Sensitive skin doesn't like extremes.
- While proper skin care is critical to optimal skin health, so is your diet. Include healthy fats in your diet, such as salmon, nuts and seeds, avocado and olive oil.
- Look for ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, Ceramides, and their botanical counterparts such as marshmallow root, chia seed, rose, Indian henna seed and oats. These ingredients deeply hydrate the skin and help it to retain moisture and hydration.
- Inflammation and sensitivities can also be a factor in excessive dryness. Address inflammation with the anti-inflammatory ingredients and diet.
