WINTER SKIN RESET - Week Five

Let’s Talk Exfoliation — Manual vs. Enzyme

In winter, your skin slows down. Dead skin can sit on the surface longer, making skin look and feel dull and preventing serums and moisturizers from absorbing properly. Exfoliation helps — but only when it’s done gently and correctly.

Here’s how to think about exfoliation

Physical Exfoliation

is the one you can feel. It contains fine grains that manually polish away dead skin.

How to use

  • Start with clean, damp skin.Take a small amount and massage VERY gently in soft circular motions for about 30–60 seconds. Dip your fingers in water to emulsify the exfoliant if it's feeling harsh. Use very light pressure - you're exfoliating your skin not scrubbing floors.
  • Rinse with lukewarm water, pat dry gently, and immediately apply your hydrating toner and moisturizer. Once a week is plenty.

Enzyme exfoliation

is the quieter option. No scrubbing, no friction. Enzymes work by dissolving the “glue” that holds dead skin cells together.

How to use:

  • Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin and let it sit for the recommended time (usually 2–10 minutes). You might feel a light tingle, but nothing intense.
  • Rinse gently and follow right away with hydration and nourishment. Enzymes refine without stressing your skin barrier.

Regardless of which exfoliator you choose, remember:

I.

Exfoliate but do not over-exfoliate. Once a week is plenty.

II.

Be gentle. No need to scrub harshly.

III.

Exfoliation should leave your skin smooth and bright not red, tight, or sensitive.

IV.

Think polish, not punish. Your skin will thank you.
