WINTER SKIN RESET - Week Three

Serum: The Heavy Hitter in your skin care routine

Your moisturizer is your outer layer of protection and your serum is the heavy hitter underneath. It’s the step that delivers concentrated support—quietly, effectively, and with purpose.

A serum is a highly concentrated treatment product designed to address specific skin concerns. Unlike cleansers or moisturizers, serums are formulated to deliver potent ingredients directly to the skin—where they can do meaningful work.

Serums come in different forms

Serums can be gel, oil or cream but they aren’t defined by texture. Serums offer focused, results-driven support.

Why serums matter

This is where brands put their best ingredients—often in higher concentrations—to target concerns like dehydration, redness, dullness, pigmentation, fine lines, barrier damage, and acne.

Because serums are concentrated, less is more. A few drops or one pump is plenty. Overapplying won’t improve results—consistency will.

Choosing ingredients that your skin needs:

Hydration & barrier support

Hyaluronic acid, glycerin, ceramides, aloe, marshmallow root, tremella (snow mushroom), plant oils rich in essential fatty acids (jojoba, rosehip, and meadowfoam...)

Calming & soothing

Niacinamide, calendula, chamomile, calming botanical oils (calendula-infused or evening primrose)

Glow & tone

Vitamin C(always in the morning), licorice root, radiance-supporting oils (sea buckthorn or rosehip)

Acne support

Zinc, willow bark, balancing plant oils (jojoba or black cumin seed)

In the winter months, cold air, wind, indoor heat, and low humidity weaken the skin barrier and deplete hydration. Skin becomes more reactive and slower to recover.

A serum provides extra support in winter, strengthening the skin before you seal it with a moisturizer or facial oil. Even the best cream can’t do it alone.

How to use a serum

After cleansing and toning, apply 4 drops of serum (oil, gel, or cream—based on your skin’s needs) and massage into your damp skin until fully penetrated. Seal with moisturizer or oil. Use AM + PM. Vitamin C always belongs in the AM and before your toner.

Alternate hydrating, calming, or barrier-repair serums. You don’t need to layer everything at once—more isn’t better.

A serum isn’t an extra step—it’s the one that helps everything else work better, especially in winter. Choose what feels right, use it consistently, and let your skin do the rest.
