Happy Spring! Crocuses, seen as the first sign of spring are here bringing the first splash of post-winter colour.
Spring symbolizes new beginnings, making it the perfect time to refresh your beauty routine. As we move away from the harsh winter, here are six tips for spring cleaning your beauty routine:
1. Audit Your Products
Go through your skincare, makeup, and hair care products and check expiration dates. Anything past its expiration date, changed in smell, texture, or color, or simply doesn't work for you anymore should be discarded. Declutter your space, keeping only those products you use regularly and gift the others.
2. Clean Your Tools
Makeup brushes and sponges harbour bacteria which can lead to skin irritations, eye infections or breakouts. Wash sponges/beauty blenders daily and brushes weekly with a gentle cleanser. If you haven't done it in a while, now is the time. Don't forget to also clean your hairbrushes and combs to remove hair buildup by washing them with soap and warm water.
3. Book your Spring Facial
Spring is a season of rebirth and renewal, a time to slough off winter skin to reveal a fresh spring glow. Cold winter temps, wind and indoor heating will have likely taken a toll on your skin. A Spring facial helps to get rid of dry, dull winter skin for a fresh, radiant complexion. We recommend a facial with each change of season (every three months).
4. Reevaluate Your Skin Care Needs
As the seasons change, so does your skin. Assess your skin and adjust your skincare routine accordingly. You may choose to switch from a rich moisturizer to a lighter lotion. It's also a good time to introduce antioxidants, such as vitamin C serum, to protect your skin from increased sun exposure and environmental stressors.
5. Update Your Makeup Palette
Spring calls for a refresh of your makeup palette. Consider lighter foundations or tinted moisturizers, and introduce brighter colors into your makeup for a fresh, spring look. It's also a good time to replace any makeup products that are nearing the end of their shelf life, such as mascaras and eyeliners.
6. Pull Out Your Sun Protection
If you've been lax about sunscreen during the colder months, now is the time to make it a non-negotiable part of your daily routine. Look for lightweight, broad-spectrum sunscreens that can be easily incorporated under makeup or find moisturizers and makeup products with SPF included.
May these simple rituals help you tap into this magical time of year. Refresh and rejuvenate post-winter skin and embrace the beauty of spring.
