Oresta's Tips for Hyperpigmentation (Sun Damage)

Hey there sun-lover! The one who thought Bain De Soleil, Baby oil and iodine were your tanning friends. Who knew the chaos they'd unleash on your skin... Those dark pigmentation spots that keep creeping up have now become your most un-welcome friend. These are my top tips for helping lighten pigmentation, whether from the sun, hormonal changes or acne scarring:
  1. Use sunscreen. It's easier to prevent than correcting pigmentation. Apply and reapply SPF every 2 hours or after swimming or sweating.
  2. Inflammation causes pigmentation. Focus on reducing inflammation and strengthening your skin with anti-inflammatory skin care.
  3. Proper hydration is key for healthy skin. Be generous with your toner for optimum product absorption.
  4. Retinols and their alternatives are magic for lightening skin, but overuse will lead to irritation. For best results use every 2-3 days.
  5. Serums and masks are correcting powerhouses. Apply a serum twice daily and mask at least 3x a week for maximum brightening results.
  6. Seek skin care products containing vitamin C, retinoids (and their alternatives), bearberry and prickly pear to help fade dark spots and promote a more even complexion.
