Fall Foods For Glowing Skin

We love visiting local farmers markets, especially at this time of year when they are brimming with fall's bounty. The stalls overflow with a rainbow of colurs in fruits and vegetables including organic root vegetables, fresh greens, cabbage, brussel sprouts, squash, pumpkin, apples, pears and cranberries. In addition to bringing colour and flavour to our meals, the different colors offer different vitamins and minerals to nourish our bodies as well as our skin. These antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables are critical to achieving a healthy and radiant complexion.

Deep orange coloured vegetables like carrots, pumpkins & sweet potatoes are rich sources of Vitamin A and beta-carotenes, an antioxidant which converts to Vitamin A to neutralize harmful elements in our skin, help prevent wrinkles, resist infection and maintain skin's elasticity.  Pumpkin repairs sun damage, reduces pigmentation and improves skin texture and tone. As a top dietary source of beta-carotene, these antioxidants convert to Vitamin A to protect skin from the sun.

Yams contain diosgenin, a natural plant-derived steroid that has anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties and has been found to increase collagen production and repair skin.

Rich in zinc, pumpkin seeds support wound healing and scar repair, encourage cell renewal and protect skin against infection. Beta carotene sun protection, gives skin a beautiful glow.Tryptophan, found in pumpkin seeds is known to improve sleep.

Green coloured vegetables like brussel sprouts, cabbage and leafy greens (Kale and Swiss Chard) contain chlorophyll, a powerful anti-inflammatory which calms and heals acne, eczema and rosacea. They also contain high levels of collagen boosting Vitamin C to improve elasticity for more youthful looking skin. and Folate (Vitamin B9) which is vital to keeping skin plump and firm. Rich in beta-carotenes, they are skin powerhouses for radiant, glowing skin.

Green coloured fruit like pears contain a high source of Vitamin C, critical for boosting collagen production and improving the elasticity of skin.

Blue coloured fruits like blackberries, blueberries and plums carry the highest total antioxidant capacity to protect skin from damage and premature aging.

Red fruits and vegetables contain high levels of collagen boosting Vitamin C to improve elasticity for more youthful looking skin. Beets contain potassium, fiber, iron, vitamins A, B and C to fight free radicals which cause fine lines and wrinkles. Magnesium helps prevent skin allergies and eczema flare-ups and brighten skin by increasing oxygen in the blood.

Cranberries, rich in antioxidants, help detoxify the skin and reduce inflammation,  redness and skin irritation.

Rich with polyphenols, apples have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Eating apples boosts your intake of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which assists in the formation of collagen and helps maintain your skin’s waterproof barrier.

Raw Honey contains powerful anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It hydrates skin, heals acne and scars and balances oils. We love it for honey tapping. Check out our honey tapping tutorial:
