Aging Beautifully with Laurel Whole Plant Organics founder - Laurel Shaffer

On Wednesday, September 21, 2016, we hosted a magical night of healthy beauty with Laurel Shaffer of LAUREL Whole Plant Organics​. Laurel traveled from her studio in Sausalito, California for an afternoon of team training followed by a client evening to share her tips on Aging Beautifully, naturally.

Laurel is a sommelier-turned-plant aficionado who is passionate about healthy beauty. She believes consumers need to become more aware of what they are applying to their skin. Laurel's background as a sommelier offers her the gift of a super palate that is critical in formulating and ingredient sourcing of carrier oils, herbs and essential oils for her products. She believes that all ingredients are not created equal, even if they are organic and sustainably farmed; it’s also important to be aware of how the ingredients are processed, handled and stored.

 

Laurel believes that we can all age beautifully, naturally. Free radicals and inflammation are the greatest culprits of aging and antioxidants & anti-inflammatories are critical to healthy skin. People assume that if their skin is neither red nor irritated,  they have no need for anti-inflammatory products. It is important to understand that when we consume or apply something into or onto our body that is inflammatory, we are consuming or applying free radicals into or onto our body. 

We are surrounded by free radicals in our daily lives that we cannot control: pollution, our environment, clothes, furniture, houses, fragrances, diet and the products that we use. We are constantly bombard by these free radicals which cause inflammation and age us by damaging our cells.  This results in the skin's inability to create collagen, maintain hydration or function properly.
