Our Tips for Wedding Season Skincare + Makeup

It's officially wedding season.  As your big day approaches, it's natural to want your skin to look its best. For skincare, it is all about consistency and not overwhelming your skin for a calm, clear, glowing complexion. We've compiled our top tips for wedding season skin care and makeup to help you feel and look your best!

Wedding Skincare Tips

1. Schedule Facials Wisely Seek Guidance

Book an ORESTA facial! Our results-driven holistic facials are perfect for any bride-to-be, especially if you are wanting help to clear blemishes, calm redness. We recommend booking one as soon as you can, so our estheticians can tailor the perfect at-home skincare routine to get you glowing for your big day. For an upcoming summer wedding, try to fit in 2 facials before your big day, 1 month apart.

2. Stick to Your Routine

As tempting as it might be to try new products, avoid changing up your skincare routine too close to your wedding date. New products can sometimes cause unexpected reactions, so stick to what your skin knows and loves. Don't take skin care advice on Tiktok or from influencers. If you do want to introduce something new, seek professional guidance in choosing the right products for your skin.

3. Have these Essentials on Hand

In addition to your regular daily routine, you will want to be sure you have the following products leading up to your big day:

  • Hydrating Toner: This should be part of both your AM and PM routines, as it is so essential to keep your skin hydrated to maintain healthy, plump skin. Liberally and generously use your toner! Our favourites are Laurel Elixir I, Elixir II and Josh Rosebrook Hydrating Accelerator.
  • Oil Cleanser: Again, this one can be part of your daily routine, but we especially love an oil cleanser as an effective makeup remover, so it is a great product to have on hand for your wedding day, too.
  • SPF: Be diligent about SPF! You do not want to get a burn before, during your wedding or on your honeymoon! Protect your skin with SPF. We recommend a tinted sunscreen to prevent any white cast in photos. Reapply if you’ll be outdoors for much of the day. We love a powder SPF for reapplication, that can be reapplied on top of makeup without disturbing it. Our Picks: Josh Rosebrook Tinted Nutrient Day Cream SPF30, Eminence Sun Defense SPF Powder, Coola Matte Tinted Sunscreen
4. Avoid Too Many Actives

Actives can certainly create a radiant glow, but using too many active ingredients, especially new ones, can irritate your skin. Be cautious with products containing retinoids, strong acids, or high concentrations of vitamin C, if you haven’t used them before. Use the skin cycling method to not overdo it and stick to gentle, hydrating, and soothing products to keep your skin calm and balanced. If your skin very sensitive, we recommend ruling them out altogether and focussing on calming inflammation.

5. Incorporate Facial Tools

Incorporate facial tools like gua sha, jade rollers, and cryo (chill) wands into your routine. These tools are excellent for lifting, smoothing, and reducing puffiness. Use them regularly to enhance circulation and get a wedding day glow.

Wedding Makeup Tips

1. Go Bolder

Although you may want a natural look, photographs tend to tone down makeup.  Don’t be afraid to go a bit bolder than usual with application, especially with blush and eye makeup. You can opt for slightly deeper shades than you would typically wear, add more layers of mascara or go for fake lashes to ensure your features stand out in photos. Our Picks: Wonderblush Le Fard Blush, Wonderblush Le Rouge Lipstick, FitGlow Mascara

2. Define Your Features

Enhance your natural features with contouring and highlighting. Use a bronzer to sculpt your cheekbones, jawline, and nose, and add a touch of highlighter to the high points of your face for a luminous glow that catches the light. Our picks: Ere Perez Cacao Bronzing PotMinori Highlighter

3. Set Your Look

After applying your makeup, set it with a translucent setting powder to keep it in place. We also like to mist some hydrosol over a finished makeup look. This not only sets your makeup but also adds a dewy, natural finish. Our Picks: Ere Perez Corn Setting Powder

4. Practice Makes Perfect

If you’re doing your makeup yourself, practice your wedding day look several times before the big day. Experiment with different techniques, colours, and products until you find the perfect combination that makes you feel confident and beautiful.

5. Don’t Forget the Touch-Ups

Pack a touch-up kit with essential makeup items for quick touch-ups throughout the day. Include items like blotting papers, lipstick or lip gloss, concealer, and powder to keep your makeup looking fresh for the entire day.
