In pagan times, the pysanka symbolized nature's rebirth in spring. With Christianity, the writing of pysanky became a part of Ukrainian Easter traditions. The patterns and colours used in pysanka making hold deep symbolic messages. The pysanka is revered as a talisman that protects against evil, bringing good luck, health, wealth, and a bountiful harvest. Today, the pysanka has become a talisman for peace.
Every ticket holder will receive a traditional Ukrainian Easter basket containing a unique, handcrafted traditional pysanka (Ukrainian Easter egg).
Organizers Oresta and Laryssa Korbutiak and childhood friend Larysa Rozumna are first generation Canadians of Ukrainian descent. Witnessing the fear, suffering, senseless deaths and horrific devastation of their ancestral homeland inspired them to unite to help mitigate the destruction and despair in Ukraine.
