Summer has packed its bags, and our skin is feeling it. Sun, sweat and sunscreen all leave their mark, and now cooler, drier air is moving in. Fall is our favourite time to talk about exfoliation, because it’s when skin most needs a little help renewing itself.
How often should I exfoliate?
Exfoliation can be a little addictive. That silky-smooth feeling is hard to resist. But too much can wear down your skin barrier, leaving skin red, tight or sensitive.
At ORESTA, we recommend you exfoliate up to twice a week, depending on your skin’s tolerance. Some exfoliants, like masks and peels, are best used every other week. If your skin feels tight or stingy, take a break.
Whatever your skin type, the goal isn’t to exfoliate more. It’s to exfoliate smarter. Here’s where to start.
Mature Skin
As we get older, cell turnover naturally slows down. Add cooler, drier air and it slows even more. That’s how dullness settles in.
A good exfoliant clears away that buildup and lets your natural radiance show up again. No drama. Just glow.
We recommend:
- LILFOX Acid Glow Rapid Retexture Peel: Clinical strength, safe for home use. Smooths texture, plumps and brightens pigmentation. Patch test first, and always wear SPF.
- Laurel Honey Berry Mask: Vitamin C, fruit acids and enzymes with raw wild honey to hydrate. Use twice a week.
- Eminence Radish Seed Refining Peel: A gentle BHA/HA peel that refines texture and boosts circulation for natural collagen production.

Oily/Acneic Skin
Cooler weather doesn’t always calm oily skin. The air gets drier, but skin can still feel shiny and congested. The trick is to balance oil without stripping, because stripped skin only makes more oil.
We recommend:
- Eminence Charcoal Exfoliating Gel Cleanser: A gel-to-foam cleanser that draws out dirt and debris, with botanical AHA to ease congestion.
- Eminence Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant: A powder exfoliant with natural salicylic acid from strawberry and lactic acid to dissolve the dead cells that trap oil.
Sun-Damaged Skin
After a summer outdoors, skin can be left with dead cell buildup, uneven texture, dullness and more noticeable pigmentation. It happens to all of us.
Fall is the ideal time to book a facial for professional exfoliation and peels. At-home care keeps those results going. Think of it as your skin’s fall reset: treated in the treatment room, supported at home.
We recommend:
- Eminence Turmeric Energizing Treatment: A powder-to-mousse mask with antioxidant-rich turmeric and zeolite clay. Boosts circulation and evens skin tone.
- Skin Frequency Enlighten Exfoliating Treatment: A gentle liquid with rose hydrosol, willow bark and niacinamide to brighten uneven tone and calm inflammation.
Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin feels weather changes the most. Indoor heat plus cold wind outside can leave it reactive.
We understand if exfoliation makes you nervous. But it doesn’t have to be aggressive. The right type, strength and frequency can renew your skin without irritation. In the treatment room, gentle peels can refresh post-summer skin without overwhelming it. At home, a thoughtful routine protects your barrier while it does its work.
We recommend:
- Josh Rosebrook Daily Acid Toner: A hydrating leave-on toner with gentle acids and aloe, suitable even for very sensitive skin.
- Eminence Stone Crop Oxygenating Fizzofoliant: A powder-to-foam exfoliant that buffs away dull cells softly and reduces redness. No harsh scrubbing.
- Laurel Almond Rose Exfoliant: Finely milled almond flour with calming chamomile and rose petals. Gentle, soft and refreshing.
The Bottom Line
After 25+ years in skin care, here’s what we know for sure: gentle and consistent beats aggressive and occasional, every single time.
Pick the one that suits your skin, patch test, wear your SPF, and let your skin do what it already knows how to do. ✨
