Let's Talk About Acne

Your skin is a reflection of what's going on inside your body, namely emotional stress and hormonal imbalances. This is why it's important to take a holistic approach to skin care and treat the skin as a whole. We need to look at the bigger picture - go beyond your external symptoms and understand the root cause of your skin imbalances. When you're addressing acne, it's more than just choosing the right cleansers and moisturizers. As the largest organ, your skin needs to maintain a balance internally and externally to  function optimally and remain clear, healthy and strong.

Consider the following when addressing acne and controlling breakouts:

1. Nutrition and gut health play a key role in the health of our skin.

Recommendation: Consume a diet rich in vegetables, fruit, whole grains, quality protein and healthy fats as well as plenty of water help manage acne. Food sensitivities can also be linked to acne. Dairy, eggs, wheat, soy and sugar are common culprits. We suggest a food diary to track how a particular food affects your skin.

2. Managing Stress

Recommendation: Elevated cortisol can cause hormonal changes, increase inflammation and oil production which can exacerbate breakouts. Find a calming daily activity you love or even a calming moments in your day to increase mindfulness and reduce stress.

3. Incorporate Self Care Rituals:

Dry brushing and gua sha (though not on active acne) as well as daily movement and stretching help reduce inflammation, increase circulation and lymphatic flow which help achieve a clear and glowing complexion.

4. Incorporate Skin Care to reduce inflammation, support and heal the skin.
