October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know that 25,000 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015?

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Some refer to it as Pinktober, others as Breast Cancer Industry Month. Walk into any pharmacy, grocery or hardware store and you will find a plethora of pink ribbons on merchandise in support of Breast Cancer Awareness including pink toilet paper, pink lipstick, pink nail polish, pink candy, pink keychains.... the options are endless. Unfortunately, most Breast Cancer Awareness pink ribbon promotions benefit a company's bottom line rather than women who are at risk of or living with breast cancer. They have capitalized on the pink ribbon initiative to promote a perception of their brand as being part of the solution to the cancer epidemic.

This practice is referred to as pink washing

What is even more discouraging is that some of the Breast Cancer Awareness pink ribbon products contain cancer-linked toxins that are harmful to our health. How can a company that promotes itself as a champion in the fight against breast cancer refuse to remove cancer-causing substances from its products?

We have all been affected by breast cancer - be it a mother, sister, coworker or friend. At ORESTA, we believe that no woman should compromise her health for beauty. We oppose pink washing and only support companies that manufacture healthy beauty products.

At ORESTA, we have created a Breast Cancer Awareness Initiative which supports women with healthy beauty and doing what we do best: pampering.

Every month, throughout the year, we are committed to treating a woman undergoing cancer treatment to a complimentary ORESTA organic facial.

To learn about breast health, breast cancer prevention and how to reduce the risk of breast cancer, visit Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) http://onenewthing.cbcf.org/#0. They have developed a very helpful tool to create your own personalized breast health plan, including tips on nutrition, fitness, and lifestyle choices. The CBCF recommends that earth-friendly is often breast-friendly and that exposure to chemicals in our environment and everyday products that we use in our homes may increase our risk of breast cancer.

While shopping, please, 'THINK before you PINK' and refer to ORESTA's 12 toxic ingredients to avoid when shopping for personal care products:
