At ORESTA, we love summer. We love spending time outdoors, whether it be a nature hike, a vacation beach day or a relaxing day on the cottage dock. Being outdoors means we want to be protecting our skin from the sun as much as we can. While sunscreen is important, there are additional ways to strengthen and protect our skin. Here are three tips that will help you maintain a healthy and radiant complexion throughout the sunny season.
1. Use products that contain sun protecting oils.
Red Raspberry seed, Red Grape Seed, Pomegranate Seed and Carrot Seed Oils are examples of plant oils that naturally provide UV protection by fortifying our skin’s response to UV rays. While they do not replace the need for a mineral sunscreen, they are rich in antioxidants, like vitamin C and E, Resveratrol and Quercetin which help to defend the skin against the harmful effects of the sun as well as repair sun damage.
2. Incorporate a Vitamin C product into your routine.
Vitamin C is a skin care powerhouse known for its brightening, collagen-building, free-radical fighting properties. Vitamin C can also help protect the skin against harmful UV rays, especially when combined with Ferulic Acid and Vitamin E, it amplifies the efficacy of your sunscreen.
3. Reduce exfoliating products.
Exercise caution with exfoliation during the summer months, as the skin is more vulnerable to sun. Limit exfoliating to once a week using a gentle exfoliator to avoid excessive thinning of the skin and ensure better protection. Save more active exfoliants and peels for the fall to renew and brighten the skin after summer.
