Post Summer Skin Care For Fall - ORESTA mindful beauty

Post Summer Skin Care For Fall

While we've had a fabulous summer, it's always sad to see the long and sunny days of summer go. The leaves are turning colour and we're feeling the cool of fall approaching, and that means it’s time to start your new autumn routines.

At ORESTA, we love the sun and enjoy spending time outdoors. But we know that too much fun in the summer sun can result in pigmentation and sun damaged skin. This is the ideal time to repair post-summer skin and lighten pigmentation naturally with the right products and ingredients.

We’re sharing tips on which ingredients to incorporate into your post summer skin care regime to help repair sun damaged skin this season:

  1. Acids/Enzymes: exfoliators that slough away dead skin, even out skin tone, diminish age spots, sun damage and post acne discolouration. They also allow for better product penetration, rehydrate the skin and support healthy skin function. Be careful because ver-exfoliation can lead to redness and irritation.

Enzymes work by removing dead skin cells to leave your complexion looking refreshed. Acids, like Retinoic Acid, encourage cell turnover and increased collagen production. Together, these ingredients can help repair sun damaged skin on the face over time.

  1. Retinol: a form of Vitamin A that helps minimize sun spots, decrease fine lines and improve the overall texture of the skin. Retinol is also a great ingredient for your anti-aging skin routine. Since the effects of Vitamin A can make your skin more sensitive to UV rays, fall and winter are the perfect time to incorporate retinol into your post summer skin care routine.
  1. Vitamin C: an antioxidant that repairs sun damage by reducing pigmentation, evening out skin tone and protecting skin from sun damage. It not only protects existing collagen from free radicals (that break down skin) but also stimulates collagen production (a building block for smooth and firm skin).

Choose a stable form of Vitamin C (such as ascorbic acid) to brighten the skin, fade dark spots, even out skin tone, heal wounds, reduce scars and improve skin texture. A Vitamin C serum will be one of your greatest assets for post summer skin care.

  1. Jojoba oil: is a gentle, hydrating oil that works to attract water to the top layer of the skin, helping to keep the skin hydrated. It’s known to help restore vitamin E, add moisture and promote healing to soothe the symptoms of sun damaged skin.

Used alongside other hydrating and healing ingredients, jojoba oil can do wonders to heal, soothe and regenerate skin, even skin tone, reduce fine lines, and minimize free radical damage.

How to Repair Sun Damaged Skin on Your Face Naturally

Remember to be patient and consistent when addressing pigmentation. Products like sun damage repair serum, vitamins, and minerals all take time to help even out your complexion.

How to repair sun damaged skin on your face requires the right products, patients, and a consistent routine. First of all, you’ll want to switch up your post summer skin care regime to include products designed for sun damaged skin. Look for products that use the above hero ingredients to help brighten your complexion.

Some other ways to help repair sun damaged skin this season include:

Changing your diet: Certain fruits and vegetables can help with pigmentation. Leafy green veggies, like kale and spinach, contain vitamins and minerals for an even complexion. Citrus fruits are packed with Vitamin C and Vitamin A which assist with melanin production and can help even your skin tone. Plus, citrus can help naturally increase your Vitamin C intake.

You can also find some post summer skin care products that utilize natural ingredients like citrus juice and kale to deliver these benefits directly to your skin.

Use sunscreen: Just because summer is over it doesn’t mean you should stop using sunscreen. Make sure your post summer skin care routine includes a daily dose of sunscreen to help protect your delicate skin from UV rays year round. Eminence Sun Defense Mineral Powder Sunscreen SPF 30 is a great way to soothe and protect your skin this season.
