There has been a great deal of news about the hazards of antiperspirants and their toxic ingredients. Making the switch from a conventional deodorant to a natural deodorant can be challenging. There is a transition period as the body goes through a detoxification purging and reseting itself but don't sweat it. The transition is worth healthy, chemical-free pits!
We have traditionally used an anti-perspirant to help control perspiration. Anti-perspirants contain chemical ingredients that clog pores to prevent the release of perspiration, however, when sweat builds up behind the blocked ducts, it can becomes trapped beneath the skin resulting in bumps, swelling and a buildup of bacteria which causes odour. The acidity of these chemicals also causes a reaction with fabric that leaves yellow perspiration stains on our clothes.
Natural deodorant reduce toxic chemicals load on the skin and limit the likelihood of experiencing skin irritation. When transitioning to an all-natural deodorant, your body may need a couple of weeks to adjust. You may notice a detox period. This is your body ridding itself of your old antiperspirant and the chemicals in the antiperspirant. You may notice a rash, heavy perspiration and/or odour. As natural deodorants control odour, not perspiration, you may need to be reapply throughout the day. until your body adjusts to the changes. Be patient. The process of finding the deodorant that works best for your body chemistry may involve trying a number of different deodorants.
